The News-Miner had an article today about the search for Doc DelCastillo’s replacement being whittled down to just seven. I know there was at least one interview this morning (AD Forrest Karr teaches my 8 a.m. class and was just getting out of one to come to class).
The Capital Times also has an article about Kevin Patrick, the University of Wisconsin Assistant who was a finalist last year and re-applied for the job this year.
I wish I had time for more commentary or at least more in-depth posts, but it’s finals time, I really probably shouldn’t be posting this either…

NCAA concerns with NHL April 27, 2008

The NCAA coaches and ADs had a meeting this weekend in Naples, Fla. There, NHL and NHLPA officials met with collegiate coaches about their concerns with many players leaving early to go pro.
The Nanooks have certainly seen the effects of this as four undergrads left during and after this season to play some form of professional hockey. Jeff Lee left early in the season to play major-juniors (not quite professional, but considered so by the NCAA), Landon Novotney left immediately after the season to play for the CHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins, Tyler Eckford is finishing out the school year (his junior year) and will then join the New Jersey Devils’ affiliate, and freshman Jeff Penner joined the Boston Bruins’ affiliate.
I gotta give credit for the link: Thanks westerncollegehockeyblog

This article in the News-Miner talks more about the last three recruits, Aaron Gens, Joe Sova and Justin Brossman, from Anchorage. Brossman is currently teammates with defender Cody Butcher, who signed his NLI to come to Fairbanks last week, and Sova formerly played for the Waterloo Blackhawks with current Nanook Dustin Molle.
The Nanooks are clearly trying to build up their defensive ranks, after losing seniors T.J. Campbell and Brandon Gawryletz and junior Tyler Eckford and freshman Jeff Penner to the pro ranks.

The News-Miner has an article today about the recruits who recently signed their letters of intent: Carlo Finucci, Adam Cardwell, and Cody Butcher. Finucci and Cardwell led their respective junior leagues (BCHL and NAHL) in scoring. Butcher, a defender, is from Anchorage originally, and grew up just down the street from Dustin and Bryant Molle.
The Anchorage Daily News also has an article about Butcher.
