The NCAA coaches and ADs had a meeting this weekend in Naples, Fla. There, NHL and NHLPA officials met with collegiate coaches about their concerns with many players leaving early to go pro.
The Nanooks have certainly seen the effects of this as four undergrads left during and after this season to play some form of professional hockey. Jeff Lee left early in the season to play major-juniors (not quite professional, but considered so by the NCAA), Landon Novotney left immediately after the season to play for the CHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins, Tyler Eckford is finishing out the school year (his junior year) and will then join the New Jersey Devils’ affiliate, and freshman Jeff Penner joined the Boston Bruins’ affiliate.
