Former Nanook hockey player Aaron Voros scored two goals and had one assist for the New York Rangers in Monday’s 4-1 win over the New Jersey Devils. Those numbers put him up to be tied for the lead in league scorers for now. This is all that the Western College Hockey Blog had to say. The Anchorage Daily News pointed out that Voros and linemate Brandon Dubinsky, of Anchorage, are playing like first-liners.

The ADN also posted links to some of the Alaskan-connected players’ salaries. Here are what some former Nanooks are making:
Aaron Voros: $1.2M
Jordan Hendry: $600,000
The rest aren’t signed with the actual NHL teams apparently. But it’s interesting.

“Inside the CCHA” this week features forward Dion Knelsen. I couldn’t listen to it because it has silly browser requirements, I got it to open but it made my computer S-L-O-W, so try at your own risk. Here’s a link (it requires Internet Explorer 6.0 or later).

Knelsen was also one of the CCHA’s players of the week. He was the Kendall hockey classic MVP last weekend in Anchorage. The Nanooks won the tournament by beating Northeastern in a shootout, and by beating UConn 5-0.

US College Hockey Online has an interesting look into the phenomenon of the three-year (or less) wonders: players who leave college early to hit the pros (ie, Tyler Eckford, Jeff Penner).
